Herpes FactsHerpes is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases, affecting over 45 million Americans Nearly 60% of people who have the virus do not show signs of herpes nor do they know that they even have the disease. There is no cure for herpes, but it is treatable. With proper treatment sufferers can lead comfortable, normal lives. |
HSV-1 - Does It Always Cause Oral Herpes? The two strains are quite similar; the difference lies in where they "sit" in the body and what areas they primarily affect. Herpes 1 establishes its latency in the nerves around the ears, so it tends to cause the most cases of breakouts around the mouth area. However, Herpes Simplex 1 can also cause genital breakouts, and is in fact believed to cause anywhere from 20-30% of all cases of genital herpes (once thought to be caused exclusively by HSV-2). Both HSV 1 and 2 are highly contagious, but Herpes 1 is 2-3x more common than Herpes 2. As such, there are many more cases of oral herpes than genital herpes. Unfortunately, most people are asymptomatic and don't even know they are infected. Believe it or not, almost 80% of Americans have Herpes Simplex 1 at some point in their life, which is spread by simple contact and commonly picked up during early childhood. Luckily for most, they don't experience the painful symptoms and manifestations of the virus. If you do experience what appears to be a herpes outbreak from HSV1 or HSV2, make sure you seek medical attention right away. There are various antiviral medications that can be prescribed as well as very effective natural treatments such as Dynamiclear . Herpes Simplex 1 and 2 can be easily spread from one person to another, so be careful when it comes to choosing a sexual partner or coming into contact with someone with visible blisters. If you do have herpes, make sure to take care of yourself, eat a proper diet, exercise and reduce stress to keep outbreaks in check. The stronger your body is the better it can combat Herpes 1 and 2 viruses and keep it in remission.
